Ettifos, a leader in V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) communication technologies, announced on March 18 the signing of a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with autonomous driving specialist Smart yoUr Mobility (SUM). The partnership will focus on the joint development of remote and autonomous driving solutions powered by 5G-V2X sidelink technology.

Through this collaboration, the two companies aim to accelerate the automation of outdoor transport operations across complex industrial environments, including ports, mega hubs, and large-scale manufacturing facilities.

The initiative brings together Ettifos’ expertise in advanced V2X communication and closed network infrastructure with SUM’s full-stack autonomous driving capabilities and real-world deployment experience.

A key focus of the partnership is addressing the cost and performance challenges associated with high-volume data exchange between vehicles and control systems.

Ettifos will lead the implementation of dedicated closed networks based on 5G-V2X sidelink technology, enabling reduced communication costs while ensuring the high levels of reliability and security required for mission-critical industrial operations.

SUM will contribute its autonomous driving platform and system integration expertise, enabling seamless coordination between vehicles and control systems in operational environments.

Development and validation will take place at the autonomous driving testbed within Seoul National University’s Future Mobility Technology Center (FMTC).

In this environment, SUM’s autonomous driving systems will be integrated with Ettifos’ 5G-V2X sidelink technology to evaluate a range of real-world scenarios, supporting the delivery of a solution optimized for industrial deployment.

Ettifos is recognized for its software-defined modem (SDM)-based chipset supporting both LTE-V2X and 5G-V2X, providing a flexible and future-ready foundation for connected mobility infrastructure.

“We are pleased to collaborate with SUM to deliver a communication environment optimized for autonomous operations,” said Hojun Kim, CEO of Ettifos. “By integrating V2X communication with advanced autonomous driving technologies, we aim to accelerate the deployment of safer, more efficient, and cost-effective infrastructure for industrial mobility.”

Youngjin Hyun, CEO of SUM, added: “Our collaboration with Ettifos enables us to pair robust autonomous driving capabilities with a highly reliable communication framework. Together, we are well-positioned to deliver practical, scalable solutions that enhance safety and efficiency across industrial logistics operations.”
